As we seniors begin counting down our final weeks at Naz, members of the freshmen class are left to wonder how they will manage their way through three more demanding years of academics, athletics, service and social life. It is not an easy task – that’s for sure – yet, we did it, so we thought it was only right to share some of our wisdom and advice.
In preparation for this advice column, we reflected on the lessons we have learned along the way: What kept us motivated when school felt overwhelming? How did we maintain our grades while juggling sports and packed schedules? If given the chance, what would we tell their freshman selves? Our answers offer insight, honesty, and practical wisdom for anyone hoping to make their way through high school strong.
Freshmen were invited to submit questions to Ask A & E on their Class Of Page – here’s the first:

Elise Ochoa (E): For me, I feel the need to try hard not only for myself and my future, but because I owe it to my parents. They have always worked hard to give me everything I want, and being able to show their dedication to my success has paid off is something that keeps me motivated to always try hard.
Arabella Eliott (A): One thing that has kept me motivated to try hard is my goal of succeeding in college. I’ve always known that the work I put in now will affect my future, so that pushes me to stay focused even when things get stressful or overwhelming. I want to have as many opportunities as possible later on, and doing well in school is the first step toward that.
E: I agree! Knowing that I am putting in a lot of effort in school now helps alleviate future pressures of potentially failing in achieving my dreams. By having self-determination, it helps me achieve my future dreams in regards to jobs, where I want to live, and how I see my future lifestyle.
A: I also really want to be proud of myself and my accomplishments. Getting good grades and reaching my goals makes me feel like all my effort is worth it. Even on days when I feel tired or unmotivated, I remind myself why I started and what I’m working towards thanks to my parents’ sacrifice making sure by working hard I make them proud.
