Winter/Spring Sports Wrap-Up

Baseball The team continues to put together a strong season on and off the field with a current record of 20-9 overall, and they hold 2nd Place in the ESCC and #2 Seed in the IHSA Sectional. They battled some of the top competition around all season, including a trip to Florida where they went 2-1 against very strong opponents. The senior members have shown leadership, shared their experience and delivered big performances all year long and have made many impressive college commitments. At the same time, the future remains bright with a talented group of underclassmen continuing to develop and making their own impacts.
Basketball Boys The team competed in a challenging schedule this season bringing home 15 wins overall and placing 7th in conference play. Varsity Seniors Jack Ariens, Eddie Austin, Sawyer Holstine, Drew Hyland, Spencer King, Mike Maschio, Oliver DeSantiago, Sean Stolfi and Kerem Tokdemir provided essential leadership and talent throughout the season.

Basketball Girls The team had a historic season, finishing 35–3 and achieving the IHSA Class 4A State Championship title. They showed consistency and high-level performance throughout the year while competing against some of the top programs in Illinois. Shout out to Seniors Stella Sakalas, Lyla Shelton and Kate Wagner who will be missed but leave a lasting legacy for the remaining Varsity players. The coaching staff said the group showed elite competitiveness all season – especially the team’s ability to stay composed under pressure.
Bowling Girls This year Nazareth was excited to introduce its first ever Girls Bowling team. The girls worked extremely hard during the season and showed a lot of improvement, grit and determination. This young team is excited to continue to grow the program with rising Seniors Lorelai Bowen, Michela Russell, Amariah Woodard-Young, rising Juniors Danielle Caneda and Emily Lyons, and rising Sophomores Victoria Guidice, Bridget Hynes, Gabriel Kuzniar and Amber Meshek.
Bowling Boys The team completed its fourth season in program history with its strongest performance yet. The varsity team finished 6th at the Palos Lanes IHSA Regional and Senior Joey Diaz advanced to the IHSA Sectional for the second consecutive year. Throughout the season, the team continued to break records and improve. Senior Chris Martinez set a new 3-game high series with a 677 (226 average), while Diaz posted a program-best 278 single-game score and a 1307 series at Regionals (218 average). The team is excited for continued growth next season as they build on their success.
Competitive Cheer The team brought strong energy and school spirit throughout the season. By supporting each other through every practice and performance, they highlighted their unity and dedication. The program continues to build routines and prepare for competition season while representing Nazareth with pride and energy.
Competitive Dance The team had a momentous season placing 2nd at Regionals and 1st at Sectionals as a new 2A team. At State, they competed at high levels and placed top 10 in the state. The team continues to emphasize growth, discipline, and unity as they prepare routines and refine their performances.
Lacrosse Boys The enthusiastic team continues to grow and build on their successes. Thanks to the strong show of senior players who brought incredible leadership to the filed: Zachary Bollinger, Brendan Boyd, Manuel Diaz-De Jesus, Alexander Harris, Thomas Hayes, Charlie Kostrewa, Griffin Kuhlman, Frankie Nichols,, Alejandro Moreno, Max Munoz-Garcia, Luke Page, Emiliano Serrano, Andrew Salinas, Jack Stojetz and Kerem Tokdemir.
Lacrosse Girls With an impressive 14-3 overall record, the team is currently 2nd in conference and continues to bring their all as the season comes to a close. Congratulations to senior team members who will leave a legacy for next year’s team: Gianna Torrejon, Morgan Fantozzi, Amalie Navarro, Kate Wagner, Mary Trayser, Emma Chiaramonte, Maura Defauw, Erin Wikosz, Nora Dalton, Lily Reiter and Lilly Bartzis.
Soccer Girls The team faced a difficult season due to illness and injuries but continued to show resilience and leadership. Senior Co-Captain Olivia O’Neill who commanded the midfield, said the team is “working through challenges together and focusing on improvement.” Senior Co-Captain Ava Berner brought energy on both defense and midfield, while Junior Samantha Austin and Sophomore Daniella Berrutin were both integral members of the team along with. Coach comments emphasized that “the leadership from upperclassmen has kept the group focused.”
Softball The team focused on growth this season while developing a young roster. The group has shown steady improvement and resilience despite the record not showing the full story. The team earned key wins over Hinsdale South, Hinsdale Central, Carmel, and St. Viator. Senior leader Ellie Stratis said the team is “learning how to compete at a higher level every game,” as she led the team with four home runs. Seniors Elena Garcia and Angelina Ortiz also provided leadership on and off the field as the program builds toward the future.
Tennis Boys The Boys Tennis team has had a strong season despite frequent weather interruptions. Senior captain Tucker Gianares said the team has been “staying focused and competing hard in every match,” as the Roadrunners built momentum in conference play. Seniors Will Siffermann, Will Morkin, Brendan Belden, and Oliver Young also provided leadership throughout the season. On the JV side, Seniors John Allegretti, Nate Sefcik, Max Bucur, and Tommy Hubert helped guide younger players. The team continues to improve heading into the final stretch of the season.
Track and Field Boys The program displayed a commitment and balance that displayed much promise this season. The team was led by Seniors Daniel Lewis (3200m and 1600m) and Anthony Lopez (3200m and 1600m), Juniors Cash Coleman (Sprinter), Patrick Pedergnana (Discus & Shot Put) and Ryan Walsh (Long Jump) and Sophomore Harry Keenan (400m).
Track and Field Girls This year’s team showed much promise and dedication with experienced members showing great leadership to their new teammates. This season the team was led by returners Senior Ellie Pedergnana (High Jump) Juniors, Claire Sigmund (400m) and Julia Parkes (1600m) and Sophomore Delilah Apel (Long Jump and Triple Jump).
Volleyball Boys Congratulations to the Seniors who have shown grit and endurance this season, they will leave a lasting legacy to inspire their teammates: Vince Guidice, Owen Hogan, Maks Galik, Danny Wright, Matt Hounihan, Michael Valenzuela,

Wrestling The team will graduate three-year varsity starters James Furlong and Dylan Gurland. Head Coach Denis Laughlin noted that the program will miss their leadership and experience on the mat. However, the team returns strong sectional qualifiers Juniors Emilio Fortiz, Richie Gulli and Alek Ramos and Freshman Joaquin Fortiz. The returning group is expected to lead the next phase of the program’s development.
