  • Opening one present at midnight on Christmas Eve

Many families around the world hold this tradition. After having Christmas Eve dinner and watching Christmas movies, when the clock strikes 12 each member of the family is allowed to pick out one present and open it.

  • Baking Cookies for Santa

If a household has children many times they bake cookies a few nights before Christmas Eve for Santa. Either while watching a classic Christmas movie or while listening to Christmas music on the radio, baking cookies is always a holiday classic!

  • Getting pajamas on Christmas Eve

Similar to the Christmas present tradition, many families with children carry out the tradition of buying the kids matching pajamas and giving them to the kids on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas morning all of the kids can open Christmas presents while in their festive pajamas.

  • Making Gingerbread Houses

It is a classic tradition to make gingerbread houses with the family a couple nights before Christmas. The whole family will gather in the kitchen and make gingerbread houses while spending quality time with one another.

  • Secret Santa

Many offices or large groups of friends host a Secret Santa gift exchange every year around Christmas. Everyone’s name is put into a hat, and they are picked at random.  Whoever you get is the person you have to buy a gift for and there is usually a price range. Then all the gifts are exchanged at a party or get together.
