In a recent interview with The Announcer, Media Specialist Mrs. Laura Claxton shared information about the new changes to the Media Center, as well as a little bit about herself.

Specifically, she explained why the previously known Oremus Library is now called the Media Center. Mrs. Claxton said, “Calling it the Media Center better reflects the use of the space and what is available to students. Particularly, the Chromebooks, and other computers available to students. Books are just one type of media that we use in this space.”

She also explained that her  “main job as the Media Specialist is helping with technology integration and an effective use of our resources, both digital and print.”

One of the reasons Mrs. Claxton enjoys being Media Specialist is that she loves “learning new technologies” and “trying to see how they can best be utilized, and showing others.”

Although Mrs. Claxton arrived as a staff member in the 2014-2015 school year, Nazareth is far from new to her, as she is a proud alum of Nazareth. Since she’s returned to Naz as a faculty member, a lot of things have changed. She mentioned positive changes in, “The use of technology in the classroom, the appearance of the building,” “the increase and improvement of athletic facilities, and the beautification of the exterior of the building.”

For the 2015-2016 school year, she most looks forward to getting to know the students better and finding new ways to use her skills to better the academic community.

Many people of the Nazareth community know Mrs. Claxton as a fun, hardworking, and intelligent person. Here are some fun facts of this treasured member of our school.

Mrs. Claxton’s favorite thing to do on the weekends is to spend time with her two young daughters, Ruby and Millie, and with her husband.

Her favorite place to travel to is Italy because of the delicious cuisine and the beautiful language. Mrs. Claxton was previously employed by the Chicago Tribune as an editor.

Her favorite genre of music is country and her favorite artist is the Zac Brown Band. With Mrs. Claxton’s birthday falling on the Fourth of July, that is her favorite holiday, plus, she loves to spend time with her family on that special day.

The addition of Mrs. Claxton as Media specialist has proven to benefit the entire Nazareth community in more aspects than just technology.
