Physical Education teacher Matt Madia is a Chicago native who grew up in Bridgeport and loves it so much he says he will probably stay in Chicago for the rest of his life. He has always had a love of sports and grew up attending Catholic schools.

Madia has a lot of education under his belt. He received his undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Health at Northeastern Illinois University, and then went onto Robert Morris University for his Graduate degree in Sports Management, in addition to earning his Master of Business Administration.

For the last five years, Madia has taught PE at North Side College Prep. He loves teaching PE because he can wear shorts and a tee shirt to work, among other things. He loves playing games and making things fun for the students. He currently teaches Health, Team Sports and Yoga. Along with his teaching duties, Madia also coaches volleyball and is excited for the season.

It’s not all sports for Madia. He is a fan of classic music and said that The Beatles are his favorite band of all time. “It’s always going to be the Beatles,” said Media. “It’s the first band I ever listened to.”

In addition to listening to The Beatles, Madia loves watching TV and is a big fan of Netflix. His favorite show is Big Brother, and during quarantine he was able to catch up on all the Marvel movies on Disney Plus.

Madia also loves to watch basketball and baseball, but said he doesn’t think his favorite team—  The Chicago White Sox—can win the World Series. “If you asked me a month ago, I think they could’ve won it,” said Madia.

The Nazareth community welcomes Madia to the faculty and looks forward to getting to know him better in the months to come.
