Left turns prohibited at main entrance

On Friday, August 30th at dismissal, a Nazareth student was leaving campus at the main entrance and her car was struck when taking a left turn on to Ogden Avenue.

For anyone who has tried to take this same left turn, you know that it is stressful as traffic moving east and west on Ogden can be relentless. Add to that the pressure of so many cars waiting behind you, and you have a dangerous situation.

Despite Administration’s attempts to work with The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) in the past to try to acquire a stoplight at the main drive intersection, they have been denied time and again. So, the administration has decided to prohibit left turns from that intersection during school dismissal times to make students and their parents as safe as possible as they leave our campus.

As of this past Tuesday, September 3, left turns are prohibited at the main drive Monday through Friday between 3 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Drivers will need to go down to the west drive where there is a light to make a left turn. Students will be expected to follow this procedure on early dismissal day, too.

A sign indicating the new traffic rule will be installed as soon as it is delivered.
