The bags tournament, or as others would call it, the corn hole tournament is an annual spirit raising event organized by Senior Board. Students and teachers gathered on September 30th at Naz for the annual showdown. This year brought a couple of new and exciting changes including playing outdoors on the front lawn (as opposed to in the gym) and a cash prize awarded to the first and second place winners.
Going into the tournament the bar was set high as the previous victors, Mr. Gonzalez and Mr. Wejman, also known as the Rough Riders, challenged the school to defeat them with their morning announcement. Prior to the event, Senior Board member Frankie Imparo, said he “loves the competition” and that he wanted “the student body to knock the Rough Riders “off their thrones.”
Once again however, the tournament proved that the Naz faculty could rise above the students as the Rough Riders were named the victors after several hours of intense competition.
Rough Rider team member, Mr. Wejman stated, “It was a tough win, and losing once early on to a sophomore team was challenging, but it always feels good to win. I challenge anyone who thinks they can beat us in 2013.”
Overall, it was a beautiful day for the tournament and many students and faculty came out and gave it their all. It looks like the Naz students will have to wait until next year to try and defeat the Rough Riders. In the meantime, the upcoming student-faculty softball game to be held on Friday October 12th will provide Naz students another opportunity for a little friendly competition with faculty.
