As you enter the business office at Nazareth Academy, you may encounter accountant Bobbi Hannigan, the newest member of the numbers team, who brings years of experience and a deep connection to the Nazareth community.
Although she attended Lyons Township High School, Hannigan considers Nazareth Academy home. She said, “[Nazareth] is so welcoming, it’s great.” Being a member of the staff in a professional capacity feels like a full circle moment for Hannigan, because both of her children graduated from Naz.
Hannigan said that counselors Melissa Byram and Kevin Milos were especially great in the college guidance department. During those years, she was also an active member of the Parents’ Association.
Hannigan began working in accounting when she was just 17. She worked at a local savings and loan a few blocks away from her home in La Grange, and from that experience, she knew that finance was what she wanted to pursue. Hannigan recalled that numbers and data were always her specialty when she was in high school.
She spent her career in banking, accounting, and working in many financial leadership roles. Most recently, Hannigan served as Chief Financial Officer at local nonprofit Building Ecumenical Discipleship through Sheltering (BEDS), where she began as a part-time accountant before working her way up to a financial leadership position.
Hannigan was very committed to the people and mission at BEDS. She said, “The leadership is fabulous there, and so I was glad to support them however I could.”
Outside of work, Hannigan enjoys playing golf and tennis. She said she has been playing tennis since she was 10 or 12 years old. It is also her favorite way to stay active, and she also loves to watch the pros play. She especially loves watching the US Open. She also enjoys relaxing away from all the numbers with a good TV show, or discussing a new book with her book club.
One thing people may not know about Hannigan is that she is a proud grandmother of two grandsons who are, as she said, “One of the greatest joys of my life.” Nazareth is so thrilled to have Hannigan join the business team with all of her experience, but especially for her genuine love for the community.
