September 24th was a memorable day for the Nazareth Academy Band.  The fifty-six band members traveled all the way to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois to perform with the university’s marching band  and twelve other local high school bands during halftime and postgame.

Michael Sliwinski, the Director of Bands for two years, was very excited about this opportunity.

“During my time, the band has not done anything like this,” he stated. “Looking back upon records, the band hasn’t done anything like this in the past ten years.”

Not only was this an opportunity to play with a collegiate marching band, it was also a chance to experience college football from an entirely new perspective.

“I hope [this experience] excites the students to continue playing in college,” Sliwinski explained.

If you missed this event, be sure to check out the alumni band that will perform at homecoming, Band-O-Rama on October 21st, and two band contests occurring in February.
