2016 Grammy’s recap

It is that time of year when award shows take pop culture’s center stage. Hosted by LL Cool K, the Grammys took place on February 15 to recognize the outstanding achievements in the music business. In fact, this year marked the 58th year of the Grammys.

 

  The first category was Record of the Year. The songs in this category included: Really Love by D’angelo and The Vanguard, Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, Blank Space by Taylor Swift, and Can’t Feel My Face by The Weeknd. The winner of this category was Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson.

 

  The next category was Album of the Year. The albums featured in this category included: Sound & Color by Alabama Shakes, To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar, Traveller by Chris Stapleton, 1989 by Taylor Swift, and Beauty Behind the Madness by The Weeknd. The winner of this category was Taylor Swift.

 

  Another category was Song of the Year. The following songs were selected to be in this category: Alright by Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell Williams, Blank Space by Taylor Swift, Girl Crush by Little Big Town, See You Again by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth, and Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran. The winner of this category was Ed Sheeran.

 

  The fourth category was Best New Artist. The following artists were the included: Courtney Barnett, James Bay, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly, and Meghan Trainor. The winner of this category was Meghan Trainor.

 

  The Best Pop Solo Performance included nominees: Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You Do, Kelly Clarkson’s Heartbeat Song, Taylor Swift’s Blank Space, Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud, and The Weeknd’s Can’t Feel My Face. The winner of this category was Ed Sheeran. A similar category is Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, which included: Ship to Wreck by Florence and the Machine, Sugar by Maroon 5, Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, Bad Blood by Taylor Swift and her singing crew, and See You Again by Wiz Khalifa. The winner was Uptown Funk.

 

  The Best Pop Vocal Album was 1989. The nominees were: Kelly Clarkson, Florence and the Machine, Mark Ronson, Taylor Swift, and James Taylor. The Best Rock Song nominees included: Don’t Wanna Fight by Alabama Shakes, Ex’s & Oh’s by Elle King, Hold Back the River by James Bay, Lydia by Highly Suspect, and What Kind Of Man by Florence and the Machine. The winner of this category was Don’t Wanna Fight by Alabama Shakes.

 

 These are just some of the more popular categories of the Grammys. However, there are still many artists to recognize for their accomplishments over the past year.
