BOOST Internship Debuts at Nazareth

BOOST.  What is it?  Why have I been seeing it around school?  Why are my friends dressed up in nice clothes?

BOOST is a new internship program at Nazareth, and its acronym stands for “Bold Opportunities for Outstanding Students Today and Tomorrow.”  It was started from an idea proposed by Dr. Roberta Zasadzinski, Mrs. Deborah Tracy, and Sister Terry Middendorf.  They want to bring alumni and friends of Nazareth who own or are in businesses to come back to Naz and sponsor an unpaid internship program to offer students experience with jobs.

In an interview, Dr. Zasadzinski made it clear that they couldn’t have launched the program without help from Mrs. Stojetz, Ms. Fernholz, Mrs. Hawkins, Ms. Cook, and Ms. Murguia, as they helped put the idea into action.

So far 18 students have applied and the results are waiting to be delivered.  Students had to have a 3.5 GPA minimum and also submit a resume and an application which consisted of short essays.  Applicants also had to attend an interview skills seminar which was run by Mrs. Tracy.

Students dressed up for certain days because they interviewed with the leaders and owners of the companies and were practicing interview skills and presentation.

The eight companies associated with BOOST have given very positive feedback and are impressed by the quality of Nazareth students.

Many Nazareth students definitely hope to get a “boost” out of BOOST!
