Super Bowl 50 hosts memorable halftime show

Super Bowl 50 took place on Feb. 7. The Carolina Panthers defeated the Denver Broncos. As much as people were discussing the game, they were also discussing the halftime show.  This year, the performers were Beyoncé, Coldplay, and Bruno Mars.

Beyoncé had barely released a new song, along with its video, called “Formation” the

day before the Super Bowl. The song and video preach about women and black empowerment and show the suffering of police brutality that has still been going on.

In her performance, she mashed up “Formation” with Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’

“Uptown Funk.” They also sang with Coldplay. During her performance, some viewers noticed that she almost fell, but it was barely noticeable. She played it off and kept dancing as if it were a part of it. She also wore an outfit inspired by Michael Jackson, another pop legend.

Fans and viewers also got emotional about the surprise there. The crowds held up

colorful signs that spelled out “Believe in Love.” The stadium was full of vibrant colors and showed the support for marriage equality.

The strong political messages in the halftime show created polarized reactions with many in support of the messages of tolerance and inclusivity, and many others condemning the politicization of the Super Bowl.
