Sweater weather is here: Fall fashion trends

“It’s all about ‘mom style,”says Huffington Post, in their latest recap of the 2016 New York Fashion Week. The runway in NYC was full of trends like Mom Jeans and Windbreakers, which sounds like some sort of fashion teens would not be interested in. Of course, much like everything else in our lives, what’s gone will eventually come back…. like Mom Jeans.

  • Mom Jeans – So what are Mom Jeans, and do you have to be a mom to wear them? The answer is no. Mom Jeans in the last few years, and especially in 2016, have come back as a trend for younger teens, and middle aged women who want that extra comfort when wearing a pair of jeans. The Mom Jean look is simply a pair of denims that rise up to your belly button, much like the Hi-Rise Jean look, and some may go straight to the ankle, while others flare out. The lighter the color of denim, the more mom they get. Mom Jeans go great with a cute graphic tee tucked in or a cute crop top. Bottom line, Mom Jeans are just a term for high-rise jeans. Stores like American Eagle, Forever 21, and Nordstrom carry this look.
  • Windbreakers- Yes, Windbreakers are back! Not the type of Windbreakers that were worn with the ‘70s workout look, however. “Neutral colored windbreakers with a leather kind of look to them are what’s hot right now,” according to Huffington Post. The New York Fashion Week look consisted of a Windbreaker with jeans, or leggings. Windbreakers provide some sort of warmth for the windy autumn days, and a different coat look, rather than a typical North Face. Stores like Zara Collections, Forever 21, and Francesca’s Boutique carry all kinds of colors and prints in these jackets for your fall attire.
  • Graphic Tees – So, if you buy a pair of Mom Jeans, what goes with them? Graphic Tees! They are back, and yes they are cooler than ever. “Retro” brand, carries the best ones of all, with sayings like “Kale” instead of “Yale,” “I’m not Democratic or Republican, I’m a cat lover,” and many others. You can even add a little flare to them and tuck them in that pair of jeans, or tie the bottom together. Target carries all Retro brand apparel, which comes highly recommended.

Now to the casual, more appealing “fall look” for some. On those cold Saturdays when you’re apple picking with the fam, it’s important to show up in style with these looks for the fall.

  • Poncho Sweaters- AKA the comfiest sweaters you will ever wear in your life. Poncho sweaters are key for a fall day. When you want to wear a jacket, yet still be able to show off your outfit, poncho sweaters are what makes that possible. While still providing the comfort that a jacket will supply, they are open and you can still show off that cute outfit of yours. Stores like Francesca’s Boutique and Nordstrom carry all sorts of prints and colors.
  • Floppy Hats- What’s that, a hat? Not a Sunhat, a floppy hat. Floppy Hats are the new look. Providing an extra accessory to your fall attire, they come in all shapes and colors. Floppy Hats have a thick material to them, providing some warmth in the fall. They also can have bows or stamps on them, which add even more flare to your outfit. Floppy Hats are sold everywhere and anywhere, but as most of the wardrobe pieces are, they are sold especially at Francesca’s Boutique.
  • Clogged Heels- Now what about shoes? Summer flip-flops are out, and clogged heels are so in! The new look this summer was a clogged wedge or heel, and the same translates into the fall. The clogged heel is so comfy, they don’t hurt when you walk, like some other heels may. Clogged heels are popular in the brand Madden Girl, and they have cute dimensions to the front of the heel as well. These shoes are highly recommended for the Mom Jean look.

Fall is for three things: football, fashion, and fun, but you can’t have anything without fashion involved.
